How Do Psychics Know Things They Couldn’t Possibly Know?

Palm Springs psychic explaining how psychic information is received through clairvoyance, clairaudience, clairsentience and claircognizance.

It’s probably one of the biggest questions people have about psychic readings:

How could a psychic possibly know something they were never told?

Maybe it’s the name of someone important in your life.

A situation happening at work.

A relationship that’s changing.

A move you’re considering.

Or something you’ve been thinking about but haven’t told anyone.

When information like that comes through during a psychic reading, it can be surprising for the person receiving the reading.

But what’s equally interesting is what it’s like for the psychic receiving the information.

As a psychic in Palm Springs, I’ve spent years working with intuitive information, and one thing I’ve learned is that psychic information doesn’t always arrive the way people expect.

I don’t sit down and suddenly hear a mysterious voice giving me a complete biography of the person I’m reading.

Sometimes I see something.

Sometimes I feel something.

Sometimes a word or thought enters my awareness.

And sometimes I simply know.

That last one can be the hardest to explain.

But when you’ve experienced it enough times—and then watched the information be validated—you learn to pay attention.

Psychic Information Can Arrive in Different Ways

People sometimes imagine psychic ability as one single sense.

In my experience, it isn’t.

Psychic information can come through several intuitive senses traditionally referred to as the clairs.

You may have heard some of these terms before:

Clairvoyance — intuitive seeing.

Clairaudience — intuitive hearing.

Clairsentience — intuitive feeling.

Claircognizance — intuitive knowing.

There are other clairs as well, but these are some of the ones people recognize most often.

A psychic may rely heavily on one ability while another psychic experiences information differently.

And sometimes several of them work together.

That’s part of what makes psychic work so difficult to describe.

The information doesn’t always arrive as a neat sentence.

Sometimes you have to recognize how you’re receiving it.

Clairvoyance: When Psychic Information Comes as an Image

Clairvoyance literally refers to “clear seeing.”

That doesn’t necessarily mean seeing a full apparition standing in front of you.

For many psychics, clairvoyant information is much subtler.

An image may suddenly appear in the mind.

I might see a house.

A particular object.

A person.

A location.

A symbol.

Or I may receive what feels almost like a quick mental snapshot.

The important part is learning not to immediately dismiss it.

Our minds produce images all day long, so one of the challenges in developing psychic ability is learning the difference between something you’re intentionally imagining and something that seems to arrive on its own.

Sometimes the image makes immediate sense.

Sometimes it doesn’t.

And sometimes the person I’m reading is the one who understands exactly why I’ve been shown it.

Clairaudience: When You Hear the Information

Clairaudience is intuitive hearing.

Again, this doesn’t necessarily mean hearing a voice externally as though another person were standing in the room.

It can be much more subtle.

A word may suddenly come into my awareness.

A name.

A phrase.

Even a sentence.

The experience can feel almost like a thought—but it isn’t a thought I was consciously trying to create.

That’s where experience becomes important.

When you’re doing psychic work, you have to learn when to trust something enough to say it.

Because sometimes the strangest little piece of information turns out to be exactly what the client needed to hear.

Clairsentience: When You Feel the Information

Clairsentience is one of the intuitive abilities I think many people experience without realizing it.

It’s essentially clear feeling.

Have you ever walked into a room and immediately felt that something wasn’t right?

Nobody said anything.

Nothing obvious happened.

But you could feel it.

Or perhaps you’ve met someone and immediately felt comfortable around them—even though you’d only known them for a few minutes.

People often call these experiences a gut feeling.

Clairsentience can operate in a similar way during a psychic reading.

I may suddenly feel that a relationship has changed.

I may sense hesitation around a decision.

I may feel excitement surrounding an opportunity.

The feeling itself becomes information.

But this is also why psychic work requires discernment.

A psychic has emotions just like everyone else.

You have to learn to recognize the difference between your own feelings and something you’re picking up during the reading.

Claircognizance: When You Simply Know

This may be one of my favorite psychic senses because it’s so difficult to explain logically.

Claircognizance means clear knowing.

There isn’t necessarily an image.

There isn’t necessarily a voice.

There may not even be a strong feeling.

You simply know something.

And you don’t know how you know it.

I’ve experienced this during readings when information suddenly becomes very clear to me even though I have no logical reason for reaching that conclusion.

This is also one of the easiest intuitive abilities to dismiss.

Your logical mind immediately jumps in:

Where did that come from?

Am I making this up?

Why would I think that?

But sometimes the information turns out to be exactly right.

The Client Who Didn’t Tell Me Her Question

One experience that demonstrates this particularly well happened with a client who decided she wanted to test me.

She had a specific question she wanted answered, but she wasn’t going to tell me what it was.

She wanted to see whether I could figure it out.

As I connected with her, I began receiving information surrounding housing and a move.

I told her that I felt she would be moving the following month and that the move was connected to a job opportunity in another state.

Only then did she reveal the question she’d been keeping to herself:

“Will I have to move for work?”

She later confirmed that she did move the following month because of work.

That’s the kind of experience that makes psychic work so fascinating to me.

I wasn’t working backward from information she had given me.

I didn’t know the question.

The information came first.

Then the validation came afterward.

When a Feeling Is Right but the Interpretation Is Wrong

There’s another side of psychic ability that I think is especially important.

Sometimes people are already picking up intuitive information themselves.

The difficulty is interpreting it.

I once had a client who felt her boyfriend was pulling away from her.

She wasn’t imagining the change.

Something was different.

But she naturally interpreted his distance as something potentially negative for the relationship.

What I received was different.

I told her that I felt he was taking a step back because he was seriously considering his future.

And when he looked at that future, he couldn’t imagine his life without her in it.

I told her I believed he was going to propose.

He proposed that weekend.

Her intuition had correctly noticed a shift in the relationship.

What she couldn’t see was what was causing it.

That’s one of the reasons I believe psychic readings can be helpful.

When we’re emotionally involved in something, fear, hope and expectation can become tangled up with intuition.

Sometimes another intuitive perspective helps separate them.

Sometimes Psychic Information Gets Very Specific

Not every psychic impression comes with a date attached.

In fact, I don’t believe anyone should expect every reading to produce exact dates and guaranteed predictions.

But occasionally, information becomes remarkably specific.

A client once asked me whether he was going to get a job he desperately wanted.

He also wanted to know when he would finally hear.

I told him he had gotten the job and that he would receive confirmation on the 17th.

He later told me that he received the confirmation:

On the 17th.

I love experiences like that.

But I also don’t use them to claim that every future event can be predicted with perfect accuracy.

Life is more complicated than that.

People make decisions.

Circumstances change.

Free will matters.

Psychic information can show possibilities, patterns and direction—and occasionally something comes through with extraordinary specificity.

How Does a Psychic Know Whether the Information Is Real?

There’s no flashing sign that appears saying:

THIS IS PSYCHIC INFORMATION.

That would certainly make my job easier.

Instead, learning to work psychically involves recognizing patterns in how information arrives.

You notice the difference between deliberately thinking about something and having information suddenly appear.

Then you give the information to the client.

And they validate it—or they don’t.

That last part matters.

I don’t believe a psychic should twist information until the client agrees with it.

If something doesn’t make sense, it doesn’t make sense.

Sometimes it may make sense later.

Sometimes it may simply be wrong.

Psychics are human.

I think acknowledging that actually makes the work more credible, not less.

Are You Psychic Too?

I believe many people are more intuitive than they realize.

You may not identify yourself as psychic, but think about your own experiences.

Have you ever thought about someone seconds before they called?

Known something was wrong before anyone told you?

Had a strong feeling about a person that later proved correct?

Suddenly thought of someone you hadn’t seen in years—and then unexpectedly encountered them?

Known which decision you needed to make even though you couldn’t logically explain why?

Some people call these coincidences.

Others call them intuition.

Some call them psychic experiences.

Whatever language you use, I think they’re worth paying attention to.

The more you begin noticing your intuitive experiences, the more you may recognize patterns in how you receive information.

Maybe you see.

Maybe you hear.

Maybe you feel.

Or maybe you’re one of those people who simply knows.

Psychic Ability Doesn’t Mean Knowing Everything

This is another misconception I’d love to clear up.

Being psychic doesn’t mean walking through the grocery store knowing everyone’s secrets.

It doesn’t mean knowing the winning lottery numbers.

And it certainly doesn’t mean being correct about everything.

Psychic ability is about receiving and interpreting intuitive information.

Sometimes that information is incredibly clear.

Other times it’s symbolic or incomplete.

And sometimes nothing meaningful comes through about a particular question.

That’s why I don’t believe psychic readings should take away your personal responsibility or decision-making.

A psychic can offer information and perspective.

You still decide what you do with it.

What Happens During a Psychic Reading With Me?

When you have a psychic reading with me, you’re welcome to bring your questions.

You don’t need to test me.

You don’t need to sit silently because you’re afraid you’ll “give something away.”

And you don’t have to pretend something makes sense when it doesn’t.

I want the reading to be useful to you.

We can look at relationships, career, family situations, major decisions, changes you’re considering, future possibilities or simply what’s happening in your life right now.

I’ll tell you what I’m receiving.

You tell me what connects.

And we’ll explore where the information leads.

Sometimes the information validates something you’ve already been feeling.

Sometimes it gives you another way of looking at a situation.

And every once in a while, something comes through that makes both of us wonder:

How could I possibly have known that?

That’s part of what continues to fascinate me about psychic work.
