Have you ever looked back at a period of your life and thought:
“If that hadn’t happened, I never would have ended up here.”
Maybe you took a job you weren’t sure about, and it introduced you to someone who changed your life.
Maybe a relationship ended that you desperately wanted to save, only for you to realize years later that its ending allowed something better to enter your life.
Maybe you didn’t get the house, promotion, opportunity, or relationship you thought you wanted.
At the time, it felt like disappointment.
Then life unfolded.
And suddenly, looking backward, you could see that what appeared to be a closed door may actually have been a course correction.
I believe these moments can sometimes be glimpses of something much larger happening around us.
We are connected to Spirit far more often than we realize.
The problem isn’t necessarily that Spirit isn’t communicating with us.
Sometimes we’re simply moving too fast to notice.
Spirit Doesn’t Always Arrive With a Flashing Sign
When people think about receiving guidance from Spirit, they sometimes imagine something unmistakable.
A voice.
A dream.
A loved one appearing.
A psychic vision.
A sign so obvious that there can be no question about what it means.
And those things can happen.
But much of the spiritual guidance we receive can be considerably more subtle.
It can appear as an idea that suddenly comes into your mind.
An impulse to call someone.
A feeling that you should take a different route.
A conversation you weren’t expecting.
An opportunity that appears at exactly the right time.
Or even something not working out despite how badly you wanted it.
We can become so focused on where we think we’re supposed to go that we don’t notice when life is quietly redirecting us somewhere else.
Sometimes You Can Only See the Guidance in Hindsight
I think hindsight is one of the best places to look for evidence of spiritual guidance in your own life.
Pick an important part of your life today and mentally trace it backward.
How did you actually get here?
You may discover a strange chain of circumstances.
One decision led to another.
A disappointment created another opportunity.
Someone entered your life because you happened to be somewhere you hadn’t originally planned to be.
A decision that frightened you ultimately became one of the best decisions you ever made.
One seemingly insignificant event created another, and another, until eventually you arrived somewhere you couldn’t have predicted.
Were all of those things simply coincidences?
Maybe.
I don’t believe we need to label every fortunate event as supernatural.
But I’ve experienced enough in my own life and through mediumship to believe that we are not navigating this existence entirely alone.
There are times when something seems to be helping us along.
Your Path Doesn’t Have to Be a Straight Line
When I talk about destiny, I don’t mean that every moment of your life has been predetermined and you have no choices.
I believe we have free will.
We make decisions constantly.
Some help us.
Some delay us.
Some send us down roads we eventually discover weren’t right for us.
But I also believe there are experiences, relationships, lessons and opportunities that are part of what we’re here to encounter.
Spirit can help guide us toward them.
Sometimes gently.
Sometimes through intuition.
And sometimes through circumstances that make absolutely no sense until years later.
What looks like a detour may actually be part of the route.
Slow Down Enough to Notice
One of the difficulties of modern life is that we’re constantly looking toward the next thing.
What’s next?
What needs fixing?
What am I worried about?
What do I need to accomplish?
Where am I going?
Our minds spend enormous amounts of time in the past and future.
But intuition tends to speak much more quietly.
If you’re constantly surrounded by mental noise, it’s difficult to hear the whisper underneath it.
That’s why one of the simplest things you can do to become more aware of spiritual guidance is:
Stay connected to the present moment.
You don’t need to meditate for two hours.
Sometimes it’s simply stopping.
Looking around.
Taking a breath.
And asking:
“What’s happening right now?”
Then pay attention.
Look for the Things That Worked Out
Here’s an exercise I particularly like.
Think about decisions you’ve made that you weren’t certain about.
Then identify the ones that eventually produced something good.
Maybe you were terrified when you made the decision.
Maybe you thought you were making a mistake.
Maybe circumstances forced your hand.
But somehow, it worked out.
Instead of immediately moving on to the next problem, acknowledge it.
Offer gratitude.
You don’t necessarily need to know whom you’re thanking.
Spirit.
God.
The Universe.
Your guides.
Your higher self.
Life itself.
Whatever language resonates with you.
Simply acknowledge:
“Thank you. I see what happened there.”
Gratitude helps shift our attention from constantly searching for what’s wrong to noticing what’s already working.
And the more you notice, the easier it becomes to recognize patterns.
“Things Always Have a Way of Working Out for Me”
There’s another practice I encourage.
Begin repeating:
“Things always have a way of working out for me.”
Not because repeating a sentence magically guarantees you’ll never experience hardship.
Life doesn’t work that way.
Instead, the phrase changes what you’re training yourself to notice.
When something uncertain happens, rather than immediately assuming disaster, you’re reminding yourself:
I don’t know how this ends yet.
You’ve survived uncertainty before.
You’ve experienced situations that initially looked terrible and eventually led somewhere better.
So leave room for the possibility that you simply haven’t reached the part where it makes sense yet.
There’s another version I like even more:
“What is it about me that allows things to work out so well?”
It’s an interesting question because your mind naturally begins searching for answers.
Maybe you’re adaptable.
Maybe you recognize opportunities.
Maybe you’re intuitive.
Maybe you have people around you who help.
Maybe you’re more resilient than you realize.
Or perhaps you’ve become increasingly good at following those subtle nudges from Spirit.
Write Down Where You Want Your Life to Go
There’s another practice I recommend, and this one requires a little more participation.
Create a living document describing the life you want.
Not just vague goals.
Be specific.
Where do you want to live?
What do you want your work to look like?
What kind of relationships do you want?
How do you want to feel when you wake up in the morning?
What do you want your finances to look like?
What experiences do you want?
What would an ordinary Tuesday look like if your life were unfolding exactly as you’d like?
Write it down.
Then don’t shove the document into a drawer and forget about it.
Visit it a couple of times every week.
Add things.
Remove things that no longer feel right.
Become more specific.
Let it evolve as you evolve.
And as you write, approach it from the perspective that the life you’re describing is possible.
You might even write some of it in the present tense:
“I am grateful that…”
Then describe what you want as though you’re already experiencing it.
This isn’t about controlling every detail of the future.
It’s about becoming clear about the direction in which you’d like to travel.
Give Spirit Something to Work With
Think of your living document as a map.
You’re saying:
“This is where I’d like to go.”
Then stay open to the route.
That’s important.
Because we sometimes become so attached to how something must happen that we miss the opportunity that’s actually taking us there.
You may want a particular outcome.
Spirit may see another route.
Your job isn’t necessarily to micromanage every turn.
Your job is to establish the destination, pay attention, use your intuition and continue moving.
Then notice what happens.
Who suddenly appears?
What opportunity comes up?
What idea keeps returning?
What doesn’t work despite repeated attempts?
What happens easily?
What feels different?
These are the moments worth paying attention to.
Don’t Turn Every Coincidence Into a Message
There’s an important balance here.
Being spiritually aware doesn’t mean assigning supernatural significance to absolutely everything that happens.
Sometimes you miss a traffic light because you missed a traffic light.
Sometimes somebody calls because they happened to think about you.
Sometimes plans change because life is unpredictable.
You don’t need to constantly decode reality.
Instead, look for patterns, timing, intuition and meaningful outcomes.
And most importantly, remain grounded in your own judgment.
Spiritual guidance should help you engage more fully with your life—not make you afraid to make decisions without receiving a sign first.
Look Back at Your Own Life
If you’re wondering whether Spirit has ever guided you, don’t start by looking for something extraordinary.
Look backward.
Think about five events that significantly changed the direction of your life.
Then ask:
What had to happen for me to arrive there?
Follow the chain backward.
You might be surprised.
An ending created a beginning.
A mistake created an opportunity.
A chance encounter created a relationship.
A disappointment pushed you somewhere you never would have gone voluntarily.
Something you couldn’t understand eventually made perfect sense.
Those are the moments I find fascinating.
Because when you see enough of them, you may begin wondering whether your life is quite as random as it sometimes appears.
You May Be More Connected Than You Realize
Spirit doesn’t necessarily need to shout.
Sometimes guidance is nothing more than a quiet nudge:
Go this way.
Call this person.
Wait.
Try again.
Let this go.
You’re ready.
And sometimes we listen without even realizing we’ve listened.
Then months or years later, we turn around and finally see the path behind us.
The more present you become, the more gratitude you practice, and the clearer you become about what you want from your life, the easier it may become to recognize those moments while they’re happening instead of only afterward.
Maybe everything isn’t happening to you.
Sometimes, something may be working with you.
And perhaps one of the most powerful things you can do is slow down long enough to notice.
Looking for Guidance and Clarity?
Sometimes we’re simply too close to our own lives to see the bigger picture.
A psychic reading can provide an opportunity to step outside the noise, explore what’s happening around you, and look at the direction your life may be taking.
At High Desert Medium, I offer psychic guidance and evidential mediumship readings for people seeking clarity, connection and a deeper understanding of what’s unfolding in their lives.
